Mélia Roger (F)

Mélia Roger (1996) is a French sound artist active in installations and sound design for cinema. Combining field recordings and active listening performances, she explores the relationships between humans and non-humans, encouraging empathetic and mindful listening. Her project Birds and Wires, awarded at the Phonurgia Nova Festival in 2021, reflects her interest in ecological interactions and the use of natural sounds to raise awareness of environmental issues.
With a classical music education and a degree in sound engineering from ENS Louis-Lumière in Paris, Roger pursued further studies at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), focusing on sonic landscapes and the link between sound and environmental perception. Her art uses technology not just as a creative tool but as a means to forge new connections with nature. Her recordings go beyond representing acoustic landscapes, seeking to engage in dialogue with the environment and bridging the gap between humans and nature.
