Riccardo Nova (I)

He studied flute and composition at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan, a pupil – among others – of Giacomo Manzoni, Giuliano Zosi Franco Donatoni, Guido Salvetti and Marlaena Kessick. After his academic studies he begins a long period of apprenticeship in the Karnatika musical tradition (South India) where he deepens in particular the rhythmic aspects and the study of percussion instruments (mridangam and tavil). His compositions have been performed by various European ensembles: Ensemble Modern, ICTUS ensemble, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble L’itinerare, Quartetto Arditti etc. His instrumental music was performed at the Ars Musica Festival (Brussels), at the Venice Biennale, at the Saison Musicale IRCAM, Radio France, Ultrashall festival, etc. He has collaborated with some of the most important Indian musicians and in 2002 he founded Sincronie together with Fausto Romitelli, Massimiliano Viel, Giovanni Verrando and Giorgio Bernasconi. In 2003 he composed the music for MA, a dance performance by the choreographer Akram Khan which has had international resonance, having been repeated 200 times since 2004. In 2006 his orchestral piece Thirteen 13×8 @ terror genereting deity was selected at the international Rostrum of composers (Paris, Radio France 2007). In 2010 he composed the music for Ipnos with the choreography of Davide Bombana (Piccolo teatro studio di Milano, NCPA Munbai, Siri fort auditorium New Delhi). In 2012 Nineteen Mantras was staged at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome and in Milan (Piccolo Teatro) under the direction of Giorgio Barberio Corsetti.
