Exceptional evening with two generations of German musicians compared and of opposite tendency. The lyrical minimalism of Marsen Jules (Martin Juhls), characterized by a constant suspension, in contrast with the weighted and tonally rich electroacoustics of Stephan Mathieu, one of the best and most experienced electronic music composers of the present. Marsen Jules begins with touches of great ambient expressiveness and references to a certain Anglo-Saxon minimalism. A poet of sound who loves to refer to abstract painting: the sound particles are transformed into timbres and tones / colors, then organized on the compositional canvas of time and space, like an instant image that flows quietly.
In the second part, the acusmonium in the hands of the German musician Stephan Mathieu will reserve some surprises for listeners, due to the delicacy of timbre, the art of spatialization and the beauty of Mathieu’s universe of sound. The Bonn artist, who will present an unprecedented version of his long-lived Radiance project, specially conceived for the INNER_SPACES review, is one of the most renowned living composers for the use of the reprocessing technique, reworking of recordings mixed with analog sounds, as well as to excerpts from recordings of ancient instruments, ambient sounds and old machines. In his long experience, Stephan Mathieu has been the protagonist of an untiring musical research since the 90s, when he was improvising drummer for the duo Stol. Over the years, Mathieu has created a unique sound derived from ancient instruments, ambient sounds and disused devices, which are detected and transformed by means of experimental microphones, re-editing techniques and software involving algorithms and spectral analysis.
