Monday, 6th November
h.21 Auditorium San Fedele
CONCERT
PHILIP GLASS (1937)
Four Movements for Two Pianos, Alfonso Alberti, Emanuela Piemonti
DONATO DOZZY (1970)
Live for Buchla 200e and two EMS Synthi
On Monday, Nov. 6, producer Donato Dozzy, among the few Italians widely and universally acclaimed on the international electronic music circuits, performs live with an unprecedented set in quadraphony and instrumentation-his own-exclusively analog, including a Buchla 200e modular system and a pair of vintage VCS3 synths. With his rare ability to make his way into people’s minds in both contemporary and classical contexts, Dozzy always manages to stir the mood of his audience, which he transports in symbiosis through hypnotic sound journeys that are different from time to time, minimalist yet rich in detail, without riding on trends or paths already traveled.
Opening the concert is the Alfonso Alberti Piano Duo with one of Philip Glass’s most successful works, “Four Movements” from 2008, a masterful synthesis of expressive minimalism with a strong emotional impact, on a par with the great season of the 1980s with the composition of the soundtrack for the film Koyaanisqatsi. The originality of the proposal consists in articulating Glass’s Four Movements with a series of transcriptions of short organ pieces by J.S. Bach made by György Kurtág. An interlocking with contrasting effect: the measured, muted sonorities of the Leipzig master will counterbalance Glass’s massive flow of sound.
