Mélia Roger (1996) is known for her work in sound installations and film design. Her art explores the sonic poetics of landscapes, primarily using field recordings and active listening performances. Her research focuses on the relationships between humans and non-humans, aiming to stimulate empathetic and conscious listening. The artist believes in the importance of participatory projects, which allow her to share experiences and knowledge through sound. Her work Birds and Wires, for which she received the Pierre Schaeffer Award at the Phonurgia Nova Festival in 2021, reflects her interest in ecological interactions, and in how recordings of natural sounds can tell stories and raise awareness about environmental issues. Mélia Roger has a classical musical background and a degree in sound engineering from ENS Louis-Lumière in Paris. She later expanded her research in transdisciplinary studies at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), where she explored the concept of “sonic landscapes” and the connection between sound and environmental perception. For this reason, Mélia Roger uses technology and her sound skills not only as artistic tools but also as means to build a new relationship with nature. Her recordings are not just acoustic representations, but attempts to engage in dialogue with the surrounding reality, striving to bridge the gap between natural and human dimensions.
