Seefeel is a historic British band, active since 1992 and currently consisting of Mark Clifford and Sarah Peacock. From the outset, the group blended elements of electronic music with post-rock, creating an original sound language. They use analog instruments and digital processes, with guitars treated with effects to produce ethereal textures similar to those of synthesizers. Rhythmic minimalism in its repetitive form has been widely employed by Seefeel in various albums, akin to the circular structures of ambient music and dub. The repetitive cycles evolve slowly, creating a magnetic sensation. Another key aspect of their music is the composition of layered textures, achieved through the overlap of organic and electronic sounds. This technique gives rise to complex soundscapes, ranging from melodic sweetness to experimental abstraction. Vocals are never at the forefront but serve as an additional layer in the composition, immersed in effects and transformed into an instrumental element that enhances the emotional and dreamlike quality of their music. Seefeel played a crucial role in Warp Records’ transition toward IDM and electronic ambient, introducing a new audience to the possibility of dialogue between experimental electronic sounds and typically rock structures. In doing so, they were pioneers of a musical movement that redefined the underground scene of the ’90s, inspiring artists like Boards of Canada, Autechre, and many others. Their latest album, Everything Squared (2024), was released after 13 years of silence. Well received by critics, it impresses with formal mastery and the ethereal balance of its sonic textures, a result of great sophistication and involvement. Seefeel remains an exemplary model of visionary musical experimentation, able to traverse epochs and influences while maintaining a strong identity.
