The evening will open with Leafcutter John, a musician and producer who has consistently explored the intersections between the natural and digital worlds. In his experimental live set, he will work with a variety of electronic and acoustic instruments, crafting a sonic landscape that invites the audience to embark on a novel auditory experience. Known for his innovative approach to composition, Leafcutter John utilizes sampling and real-time manipulation to create intricate sound textures rich with detail and variation.
Leafcutter John’s live performances are journeys through sound, inviting the audience to traverse unexplored auditory pathways, with landscapes that constantly evolve. Each set reflects his belief in music’s potential as a tool for discovery and expression.
The second part of the evening will feature Lee Gamble, a prominent figure in the contemporary electronic music scene. Renowned for his ability to merge avant-garde and dance music, Gamble has forged a sonic universe that transcends the boundaries of traditional electronic music. In his live set, Gamble will present an experience blending elements of ambient, IDM, and digital experimentation.
Rooted in sound design and influenced by genres like jungle, dubstep, and techno, his art explores the boundaries between abstraction and rhythm, with a particular focus on the intersection of music and psychoacoustics. Gamble’s works not only deconstruct traditional paradigms of electronic music but also pose questions about perception and the interaction between humans and technology.
A defining aspect of Lee Gamble’s music is his creative use of sampling. He frequently draws from environmental recordings, old jungle tracks, or digital glitches to construct a sonic universe that is at once familiar and alien. This manipulation of sound creates layered structures, where musical history is fragmented and reimagined, as seen in his album Diversions 1994-1996, which transforms fragments of old rave cassette tapes into contemplative and abstract soundscapes.
Gamble also delves into the concept of space and environment through a cinematic aesthetic. His compositions often evoke mental imagery and emotional states through an effective use of sonic spatiality. His tracks typically develop slowly, inviting listeners to navigate through complex auditory environments. In this sense, his work resembles sound installation art, making each listening experience immersive and multisensory.
His music is frequently inspired by philosophical and technological themes. In his recent works, Gamble has examined the relationship between artificial intelligence, simulation, and contemporary society. For instance, the Flush Real Pharynx trilogy (divided into In a Paraventral Scale, Exhaust, and A Million Pieces of You) explores themes such as virtuality and the fragmentation of identity in the digital age, offering a journey through the interplay of the real and the virtual.
Lee Gamble’s work combines technical and poetic complexity, avant-garde and accessibility, making him a key figure in music that goes beyond entertainment, offering an intellectual and deeply engaging experience.
